hello cooking school! (+ 9 days of Château cooking)

So, here are a few pictures of what I’ve been up to lately…lots and lots of Chateau cooking! We had a group here from Germany for 8 days, and then another group from Beaune/Dijon over the weekend. Thanks to our fabulous Château team and my wonderful mom-in-law who is visiting for a few weeks for making the week in the kitchen run so smoothly! Here are a few of the things we made…

lemon meringue tartes
gaspacho, with…

paella

broccoli salad

we tried a few new cheeses this week

caramel-chocolate tartes—there’s a layer of gooey salted caramel under the chocolate ganache…this recipe is definitely a keeper.

orange-olive salad
(the oranges, before)

spice cake with cream cheese icing

fluffy strawberry tartes, for Easter lunch. delicious speculoos crumb crust, but the filling was just a tad strange…I’ll have to keep looking for a good creamy/fluffy strawberry pie recipe. any ideas?
end-of-the-week/clean-out-the-fridge salad. of course that’s not what we write on the menu board! 🙂

And here are a few picts of the annual Easter Egg Hunt that we host for the village. We had beautiful weather, and Jay, along with the German teens, hid almost 1,000 chocolate eggs. I think we may be finding them for quite a while! The local paper had a write-up about the event, and our favorite part was that they described Jay as having “legendary amiability.”

But the big news for me is that I’m going to cooking school for six weeks…starting today! I’m leaving in a little bit to drive down to Lyon for my first day of class. I’m so excited! It’s a really amazing program that I’ve been looking at for a while, but they have a very limited class size and their classes were all full until next year. There was a cancellation, however, so at the last minute I was able to get in. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to be able to take this class!
Okay, gotta go print out directions from Google Maps and find my ipod to load some podcasts to listen to on my commute. SO excited!

The cooking class looks AMAZING! I'll definitely have to sign up for the Aalen retreat next year to enjoy your expertise 😉
